Companies:
- Alberta Electric System Operator -
We are responsible for the safe, reliable and economic planning and
operation of the Alberta Interconnected Electric System (AIES). We provide
open and non-discriminatory access to Alberta's interconnected power grid
for generation and distribution companies and large industrial consumers of
electricity. In doing so, the AESO contracts with transmission facility
owners to acquire transmission services and, with other parties to provide
fair and timely access to the system. We also develop and administer
transmission tariffs, procure ancillary services to ensure system
reliability and manage settlement of the hourly wholfsale market and
transmission system services. We facilitate Alberta's competitive wholesale
electricity market, which in 2009 had about 200 participants and
approximately $5 billion in annual energy transactions. We are focused on
ensuring a fair, open and efficient market for the exchange of electric
energy in Alberta and effective relationships with neighbouring
jurisdictions. We ensure that Alberta's competitive electricity markets
continue to operate in the best way possible, demonstrating that reliability
is not compromised and that the structure is sustainable, predictable and
adds long-term value. We are accountable for the administration and
regulation of the provincial load settlement function. We conduct all of
our business dealings with ambition, integrity, responsiveness and
efficiency. We deliver quality and innovation in a way that provides value
to customers and stakeholders. Our company is governed by an independent
board, which provides advice and direction of market participants and has a
diverse background in finance, business, electricity, oil and gas, energy
management, regulatory affairs and technology. The AESO, a not-for-profit
entity, is independent of any industry affiliations and owns no transmission
or market assets. Company website -

Electric
Reliability Council of Texas -ERCOT - ERCOT, which operates
the grid that serves 85% of the electric load in Texas, implemented a new
wholesale market design, the Texas Nodal Market, in December 2010. The new
market design required ERCOT to develop a complex system of software and
hardware, and required market participants to develop the systems to make bids
in the new market and respond to instructions and other communications from
ERCOT. The nodal market will improve the management of transmission congestion
and provide better information about where it would be desirable to build new
generation facilities, resulting in more efficient operation of generation
facilities, more reliable grid operations, and better investment decisions by
power generation companies. The nodal market opened without incident on December
1, 2010. Location -

- IESO - Ontario Independent Electricity
Systems Operator - The Independent Electricity System
Operator (IESO) works at the heart of Ontario's power system, connecting all
participants - generators that produce electricity, transmitters that send
it across the province, retailers that buy and sell it, industries and
businesses that use it in large quantities and local distribution companies
that deliver it to people's homes. Every five minutes, the IESO forecasts
consumption throughout the province and collects the best offers from
generators to provide the required amount of electricity. This allows
customers to see prices fluctuate based on supply and demand. As a result,
they can shift consumption away from peaks in demand to times when the price
is lower. The IESO monitors the system and identifies what is required to
maintain reliability in the future, reporting on these recommendations
through regular publications. In its quarterly 18-month forecasts of the
growth in demand for electricity, the IESO assesses whether there will be
adequate generation and transmission facilities. In addition, the IESO
prepares the semi-annual Ontario Reliability Outlook, which reports on the
progress of interrelated generation, transmission and demand-side projects
underway to meet Ontario's reliability requirements. The IESO co-ordinates
emergency preparedness for the province's electricity system and played a
key role in managing the restoration of power following the August 2003
blackout. The IESO continues to work with other stakeholders to evolve the
market for the benefit of all. Further enhancements will strengthen the
market, enhance reliability and provide Ontarians with greater access to
information about their power system. Location - Headquarters -

- ISO New England -
ISO New England is a regional transmission organization (RTO),
serving Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and
Vermont. ISO New England meets the electricity demands of the region's
economy and people by fulfilling three primary responsibilities:
Minute-to-minute reliable operation of New England's bulk electric power
system, providing centrally dispatched direction for the generation and flow
of electricity across the region's interstate high-voltage transmission
lines and thereby ensuring the constant availability of electricity for New
England's residents and businesses. Development, oversight and fair
administration of New England's wholesale electricity marketplace, through
which bulk electric power has been bought, sold and traded since 1999. These
competitive markets provide positive economic and environmental outcomes for
consumers and improve the ability of the power system to meet
ever-increasing demand efficiently. Management of comprehensive bulk
electric power system and wholesale markets' planning processes that address
New England's electricity needs well into the future. ISO New England is an
independent, not-for-profit corporation. To effectively carry out its
charge, the company, its Board of Directors and its 400 employees have no
financial interest or ties to any company doing business in the region's
wholesale electricity marketplace. Company website - http://www.iso-ne.com
- IRC - ISO / RTO Council -
The ISO/RTO Council (IRC) is comprised of 10 Independent System
Operators (ISOs) and Regional Transmission Organizations (RTOs) in North
America. These ISOs and RTOs serve two-thirds of electricity consumers in
the United States and more than 50 percent of Canada's population. The IRC
works collaboratively to develop effective processes, tools, and methods for
improving competitive electricity markets across North America. The IRC’s
goal is to balance reliability considerations with market practices,
resulting in efficient, robust markets that provide competitive and reliable
service to electricity users. The ISOs/RTOs serving North America provide:
